Obsessive behaviour: Compulsive cleaning. Everything has to be perfect around an Anorexic sufferer, because they believe they are not perfect themselves.
Strict Routines: A sufferer will usually have some type of routine in which they must meet perfectly on time or their mood state rapidly changes in to panic.
Self Harming: It is a possibility that the sufferer may start self harming themselves. Look out for new cuts & bruises etc.
If these symptoms are spotted then it is essential that you do not jump in head first. Step back and take a deep breath. If the person is approached, they will no doubt deny everything and it is an easy task for the
anorexia to find others ways to achieve its goal if it feels you have uncovered its current workings. Someone with anorexia will not be able to get better until they have admitted they have a problem. When you think the time is right, prepare your approach and treat it with caution, concern and care for the person. Shouting will not help. They will feel isolated and will find it very hard to ask for help. One way in which the illness works is to tell the sufferer not to ask for help from family and friends as you will only upset them. With this in mind, love, care and time is the only way to approach the problem. Having family or friends shouting will only push the close links between those people apart. This is exactly what the anorexia wants, to harm and push away the people that can help, leaving it alone with the sufferer
