- You need to use freshly boiled tap water which has been allowed to cool down. Do not use water that has been boiled more than once as this changes the mineral content of the water, so always start with a fresh kettle full.
- Pour the cooled water into the bottle, using the measurements on the side to make sure you are using the correct amount.
- Add the correct amount of formula to the bottle. A scoop should have been provided with your formula and it is usually one level scoop, not pressed too firmly down and leveled off with a sterilised knife.
- Put the top on the bottle and shake until the powder has all dissolved
Be careful how you warm up your baby's bottle, you can buy special bottle warmers or stand the bottle in a jug of hot water. You can test the temperature on the inside of your elbow to make sure it is at body temperature.
Bottle Feeding with Love
A good mum is a happy mum and if you can't breastfeed or choose not to for whatever reason, this does not make you less of a mum than one who chooses to breastfeed. If you look in to the pros and cons of each and decide breastfeeding isn't for you then make sure you speak to your midwife or GP about which formula is best for your baby so you can be confident that you are providing the best you are able to.Bonding with your baby is not unique to breastfeeding mums, formula babies have just as much of a relationship to build upon and you can enhance this by creating a relaxing and loving environment for your baby to feed in. Make sure you are cradling your baby as touch is very important as is eye to eye contact for establishing and constantly renewing the bond between you and your baby.
Don't let anyone criticise your choice, be respectful of their choice and hope that they will respect yours.
