The quick fix

Solutions
In modern society, people want easy solutions. You have a
headache, so you take a pill. The
headache may ease - but is the underlying cause being addressed? Unless you consider the cause, surely the headache will return?
Quick fix
The 'quick fix' is a myth. Problems that develop over time usually take quite a while to fix. Debt,
weight loss, poor health - these things cannot be solved instantly. Progressive, patient work is required.
Learning
Learning something new can take years of study and practice. You need endurance, stamina and commitment. Few people have the passion necessary to go the distance; they fail after the first few steps. Imagine if you could obtain a university degree after only one week of study? Would you value it?
Inherent
When people decide to learn
tai chi, they usually have some preconceptions. It is important to put these in perspective. New Yang style tai chi is not like yoga, karate or dance. Attempting to categorise, label or understand it in terms of something else is inane. The system can only be understood in terms of itself.
Silly tai chi
Many people only learn tai chi at a very superficial level. They copy the movements of a teacher and have some sense of a pattern. Unfortunately, the training never goes deeper and so the benefit remains limited. Energetic and physical awareness,
meditation and self defence is commonly missing from tai chi classes.
